RESOURCES FOR WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE

Historically women have been poorly represented in architecture so it can be challenging to find information. Often their work was published in women's magazines or journals, so these are a good place to start. Looking at historical career guides for women in architecture can also be informative. The library has a small collection, but there are also some online resources worth exploring.

Archiparlour Parlour brings together research, informed opinion and resources on women, equity and architecture in Australia. It seeks to expand the spaces and opportunities available to women while also revealing the many women who already contribute in diverse ways.
Beverely Willis Architecture Foundation The Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation (BWAF) is working to change the culture of the building industry so that women’s work, whether in contemporary practices or historical narratives, is acknowledged, respected and valued. BWAF achieves its mission by documenting women’s work, educating the public and transforming industry practice.
International Archive of Women in Architecture The International Archive of Women in Architecture (IAWA) was established in 1985 . The purpose of the Archive is to document the history of women's contributions to the built environment by collecting, preserving, and providing access to the records of women's architectural organizations and the professional papers of women architects, landscape architects, designers, architectural historians and critics, and urban planners.
The Missing 32% In the United States, women represent less than 50% of the students graduating from accredited architecture programs in the US. The number of women who are AIA members, licensed architects and senior leadership varies between 15% to 18% of the total. While the exact percentages is in constant flux, the challenge of losing the large pool of architectural talent remains the constant. This site is envisioned as a forum for conversation, a repository for articles, research, guides for equitable practice and a place for honoring the achievements of architects supporting equitable practice.
