Illustration is a branch of graphic design, and while graphic design focuses on all the different components that go into a project including things like font, text placement, primary and accent coloring, and margins, illustrators mainly work on drawings for a project. This professional group is strictly for the latter and offers art competitions, educational programs, and a variety of different local meet-ups. They also have an annual conference to provide training and discuss the role of technology in their industry.

The Society for News Design is an international organization for professionals working in the news sector of the media industry, specifically those involved with graphic design, illustration, web design and infographics.
The Society for Experiential Graphic Design is the global, multidisciplinary community of professionals who plan, design, and build experiences that connect people to place.Members include graphic and information designers, fabricators, architects, exhibition designers, technology integrators, interaction designers, brand strategists, students, wayfinding specialists, teachers, and others who have a hand in shaping content-rich, experiential spaces. The society has 1505 members in more than 20 countries.
The Graphic Artists Guild is a guild of graphic designers, illustrators, and photographers and is organized into seven chapters around the United States. It is a member of the international organization Icograda.
